SSBAJ / PROPOSAL
A proposal by Grovian
Meeting brief / 2026

A practical operating model for Jamaica’s small businesses.

Business case and high-level proposal for the Small Business Association of Jamaica.

01 / Business case

What we are solving

  • Fragmented information. Founders struggle to find reliable, plain-language guidance on registration, finance, compliance, procurement, marketing, and growth.
  • Unclear next steps. Advice is distributed across agencies, partners, and informal channels without a clear path from question to action.
  • Low business discoverability. Jamaican businesses are difficult to find by parish, category, capability, service area, and verification status.
  • Membership value is hard to see. Businesses need practical reasons to join, renew, upgrade, and participate in the SBAJ network.
  • Support is not connected. Registration, legal services, professional advice, technology, finance, and market access should work as one journey.
  • SBAJ’s mandate is under-expressed digitally. The website should reflect SBAJ’s role in technical support, mentoring, networking, governance, advocacy, and sector development.
  • Institutional knowledge is not yet structured. SBAJ needs a maintained source of truth that can inform members, partners, advocacy, and future intelligence tools.
02 / High-level proposal

What SBAJ can become

  • One institutional front door. Establish sbajamaica.org as the trusted digital entry point for Jamaica’s small-business ecosystem.
  • A verified knowledge repository. Publish founder journeys covering start, formalize, grow, protect, sell, and stay compliant, with owners, sources, costs, timelines, and last-verified dates.
  • A business directory that creates opportunity. Let verified businesses be found by parish, category, capability, and service area.
  • A membership ladder. Offer Basic Listing, Paid Growth, and Partner pathways with clear benefits such as mentorship, free directory listing, clinics, workshops, referrals, and partner discounts.
  • Ask SBAJ. Add a grounded natural-language assistant that detects intent, extracts parish and category, searches verified records, retrieves approved knowledge, and provides sources and next steps.
  • A one-stop concierge. Connect founders to legal, accounting, finance, insurance, marketing, web, SEO, email, and digital-operations partners through defined referral and service standards.
  • An ORC pathway with proper boundaries. Begin with guide and assisted-service flows. Pursue authorized API or partner access before any direct registration automation. Never scrape or store ORC credentials.
  • A measurable operating model. Govern the platform through membership, renewal, directory completeness, response time, assistant helpfulness, referrals, programme outcomes, and advocacy KPIs.
